Sofía del Mar Collins


(B. 1995 - San Juan, Puerto Rico)


      Currently between NYC and San Juan, PR, Sofía works with several media that include drawing, painting, video, installation, and performance. Her work has been featured in EFA Project Space (New York, NY), Midiadança: Laboratório de Dança e Multimídia (Ceará, Brazil), Festival Internacional de Videodança de RS (Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil), and Ojo de Tigre (San Juan, PR). She is currently pursuing her MFA in Studio Art at Hunter College, NY after graduating with the Geraldine Putnam Prize for Visual Arts (2017) from Sarah Lawrence College, where she concentrated BA studies in Sociology and Visual Arts.


     Along her visual practice, she hones independent somatic movement studies with a special focus in the dance form of contact improvisation. Sofía is also a practiced educator. She has worked as a teaching artist for the Children’s Museum of Arts, Children’s Institute of Fashion Arts, among other art organizations in NYC. Since the pandemic, she has been working as a multimodal online teacher for several children's academic and creative programs.
